Claremont Unified School District Adjusts Public Comment Procedure To Ensure Productive And Respectful Board Meetings

CLAREMONT, CA - To safeguard the integrity and focus of the Claremont Unified School District (CUSD) Board of Education meetings, Superintendent Dr. Jim Elsasser has announced a modification to public comment amidst a growing trend of disruptive virtual incidents during public meetings statewide.

Starting Monday, October 16, 2023, public comments for all future CUSD Board of Education meetings will be welcomed in-person or through online submissions, ensuring that core school business, vital to our students’ educational success, remains the focal point of each meeting.

This dedication reflects a commitment to maintaining a respectful and constructive environment during board meetings. Dr. Elsasser stated, “Our primary objective is to create a space where community input is valued and heard while ensuring that our meetings remain constructive and focused on educational and administrative matters.”

HOW THE NEW PROCEDURE WORKS:

In-Person Comments: Community members can attend board meetings in person and share their comments during the designated public comment period, adhering to existing protocols.

Online Submissions: Members of the public may submit their comments through a link on the CUSD website. Online submissions must be made by 4:00 p.m. on the day of the respective board meeting.

All submitted comments will be posted on the CUSD website before the board meeting. Each board member will receive a copy of all public comments for review and consideration prior to the beginning of the board meeting.

As many public bodies revert or revise their virtual meeting practices, CUSD remains dedicated to ensuring that each voice in our district is heard and respected without compromising the conduct and efficiency of our meetings.
